Docosahexaenoic acid (DHA), often called brain food, is an omega-3 fatty acid, unlike linoleic acid, which is an omega-6 fatty acid. It is a structural component of the brain’s gray matter and the eye’s retina.
DHA is supplied in our products from a number of ingredients such as salmon meal, fish oil, eggs and chicken meal.
Other important omega-3 fatty acids include eicosapentaenoic acid (EPA), which also comes from marine sources and alpha-linolenic acid (ALA), which comes from flaxseed. All of these omega-3 fatty acids are important in a variety of bodily functions.
Research indicates that DHA is critical for central nervous system development, good vision and sense of smell.1 DHA helps to improve learning ability and cognitive function.2 It may even positively impact temperament and memory.
DHA is so important, it is considered essential for children and is now, by law, being added to baby formula.
DHA from fish oil contributes to healthy brain development in puppies.
Added antioxidants and prebiotics help support immune health.
A balanced formula with optimal levels of calcium, phosphorus and essential vitamins contributes to healthy growth.
