Healthy weight management

Maintaining ideal body weight not only has health benefits, it also minimizes food wastage through overconsumption. Unfortunately, cat obesity is a serious problem in the U.S., where about 35% of cats are considered overweight or obese.1 At Vetdiet®, we recognize two specific benefits related to weight control, which we call “reduced calories” and “healthy weight,” as explained below.

What kind of diet is the best to manage a healthy weight for my cat?

Reducing the calorie intake in your cat’s diet is a key component of weight loss. Before starting any weight loss program, however, we recommend that you consult your veterinarian. Just feeding your cat less food is not the best way to reduce their calorie intake.

Vetdiet® weight control cat food is designed to deliver fewer calories per cup of food, but with higher levels of essential nutrients, to ensure your cat’s nutrient needs are met. Reducing caloric density – or the amount of calories per weight of food – is achieved by decreasing fat and increasing fiber levels.

Research shows that obese cats eating a restricted calorie diet with moderate protein and high fiber is effective for weight loss.2
